How it works: OhmConnect sends you text or email alerts about grid events. You can earn rewards for reducing electricity use during peak hours. Participation doesn’t impact your home unless you choose to connect appliances for additional points, prizes, and cash rewards.

Connect your water heater to a grid-friendly program

  • Once your new heat pump water heater (HPWH) is installed, and with your contractor’s help, enroll in:
    • WatterSaver (Northern California) or
    • SmartShift Rewards (Southern California)

How it works: These programs optimize your water heater to run during times when clean energy is most available. As a bonus, you’ll earn $50 for enrolling and $5/month for full participation. You can override schedules if needed.

Make sure you're on a time-of-use rate plan

  • Most utility companies offer time-of-use (TOU) rate plans, and there’s a good chance you’re already on one—especially if you have solar panels or an electric vehicle. Contact your utility to make the switch if necessary.

What Your Contractor Will Do

Your contractor will document your participation in these programs as part of the rebate application process. Here’s how they’ll help:

  1. Provide a Terms and Conditions form for you to complete, which is needed to reserve your rebate. See this article for easy instructions to fill out the form.
  2. Assist with program enrollments and ensure all requirements are met.
