Even if you don't own your home, there are still actions you can take to reduce your home's carbon pollution and live better electrically.
1) Sign up for the 100% renewable electricity plan from your utility. This will ensure that the electricity you use comes from clean sources.
2) Get a plug-in induction cooktop and use it for most of your cooking. It's a great way to try out the magic of induction and immediately reduce indoor air pollution from burning gas. There are many models available for under $100. (Example)
3) Get an electric vehicle. Public and workplace charging are available, and many home parking spaces already have at least a 120-volt outlet for low-and-slow charging (which is enough for most folks).
4) More window-unit heat pumps (like this one) are coming on the market. They can take care of at least some of your home's heating, and they also provide cooling. You can take it with you if you move.
5) Ask your landlord to sign up for QuitCarbon and get a plan. With current rebates and tax incentives, electrification can actually save them money.
